A well-crafted mission statement is an excellent way of making a great first impression on potential patients visiting your chiropractic clinic’s website.
Here’s how to create one from scratch and start reaping the benefits.
Let’s jump in!
Why does your chiropractic clinic need a mission statement?
A well-crafted mission statement carries great benefits.
1. It can help your staff get on the same page.
Regardless of how many employees your chiropractic clinic has, you want them pulling in the same direction, right?
Use a clearly written mission statement to set the tone for your office culture.
2. Inform your decision-making.
Setting a mission statement solidifies what your chiropractic clinic is all about.
It gives you a reference point to compare all your important decisions against.
For example, stating that your clinic offers “the highest possible standard of personalized care” doesn’t allow you to make many compromises in that department.
Being honest and standing by your mission statement, in this case, dictates hiring an extra CA if you recognize that your staff is stretched too thin.
3. Make a great impression.
Undoubtedly, quite a few potential patients will check out your website before giving you a call to make an appointment.
Why not make a great first impression on them by giving them a glimpse into your clinic and how you do things there?
Make it short and memorable.
4. Pave the way to improvement.
Things aren’t 100 percent the way they should be?
A powerful mission statement could pave the way for improving some aspects of your chiropractic clinic.
You could even take input from the entire staff when coming up with one and make it a team-building experience.
Important points to address in your chiropractic clinic mission statement
Generally speaking, there are four important questions to address in a mission statement:
- Who are you?
- Who do you serve?
- What results can your customers expect?
- How will you accomplish these results?
The more succinctly you address these four questions in your mission statement, the more powerful it gets.
Since the topic of this article is the chiropractic mission statement, though, let’s scratch a bit deeper.
Let’s consider these three concrete points you could explore in your mission statement.
Your competency as a chiropractic clinic
Personally, I am a huge fan of consumer-centric mission statements that don’t even mention the business.
But when the matter is health, I believe it’s perfectly OK to mention your clinic in a few carefully chosen words.
Here are 3 examples of how this looks like when done right:
“provide quality alternative healthcare at a fair price”
“to serve with the highest quality Chiropractic care, in a caring and friendly atmosphere”
“committed in delivering quality, affordable chiropractic care to all of her patients”
The idea here is not to toot your own horn but to address some of the important objections your potential patients might have.
Benefits your patients can expect if they come to you
Your clinic exists to help people.
It’s only natural to address this important point in your mission statement.
Here are a few excerpts of what it might look like:
“so our patients are free of pain and achieve their optimal health potential”
“complete healing and symptom relief”
“unlock their God given potential through chiropractic care”
Everyone with lower back pain, for example, is just looking for some relief from you.
It’s important to let them know in a few words that you will do everything in your power to give it to them.
What you can do to help your patients stay pain-free
Relieving your patients of existing pain is only half the battle.
Enforce the notion that you are the right person or people to come to by giving your patients a glimpse at their pain-free future.
Here are three examples of what I’m talking about:
“to educate and adjust back toward optimal health”
“to educate and encourage the principles of health and wellness to our community”
“to educate our patients and the public about the benefits of alternative healthcare, better nutrition, supplementation, and exercise”
Many chiropractic mission statements rely on the word educate to drive home this point, but there are also fine words like teach, guide, inform, enlighten, cultivate, or develop that you could use instead.
What makes a mission statement great?
Some of the goals worth pursuing when it comes to creating a mission statement are:
- Use clear language
- Keep it brief
- Be realistic
- Be specific
- Be positive
- Create expectations
- Make it inspirational
- Make it memorable
A great mission statement simultaneously hits on as many of these points as possible while keeping it short and sweet.
You’ll notice that some of these points aren’t about the words you use.
Rather, they’re about the tone of your mission statement as a whole.
Hitting the right tone with your mission statement will most likely require a bit of wordsmithing and several iterations.
Don’t be afraid to get a second or third opinion either.
And if you need some inspiration, here’s a list of 10 great chiropractic mission statements to illustrate this concept.
